Step 1 - Design and Proposal
The first step in the development of a new Cascon pump design is to identify and fully define the technical requirements of the application. This will include a description of the physical, functional, and performance requirements for the pump. You may have a detailed specification already in hand or we can provide assistance to develop one, but in either case, this stage is where the application requirements are distilled into the pump’s flow, pressure, duty-cycle, life, and other design parameters. It is also useful to understand your business goals as well, to ensure successful execution to production level manufacturing. Such things as program schedule, cost target, qualification test requirements, supplier quality assurance, and implementation planning requirements are essential. These design parameters form the basis for the Functional Design.
Functional Design Process
Once we’ve identified your specific needs, we can then design a new pump for your application. The Functional Design Process is a series of activities where your requirements are analyzed and distilled into the following output components:
- Design Specifications.
- Interface Control Drawing with Bill of Materials, and any additional drawings required to describe the design or estimate its cost accurately.
- Compliance Matrix – a tabulated listing of all design criteria and methods of compliance (i.e., by design, analysis, similarity, or test).
- Engineering Documentation and Analysis - verifying that the various elements of the design support design requirements.
This is very collaborative process, and often times will require several design iterations before a final configuration is developed that meets your approval. In many cases, however, we can provide an initial concept drawing and rough cost estimate within two to three weeks after receipt of the inquiry.
“By asking the right questions, they were able to cut the development time. We had a performance specification and they went from there and made it work.”
